I met this family and little baby C about 9 months prior to this photo session. Mom had contacted me to set up an extended family portrait session. We had nearly 20 people in those images - blended families and kids of all ages! We met in the early spring and completed those portraits. They were quick (it was cold!) but think of wedding day family portraits. We got the right grouping of people, looked to the camera and smiled, and then switched to another grouping of family members.
While these images were perfect for this blended - extended family session, it's not what this mom had in mind for her family portraits. When she contacted me again in the fall, she sent a few Pinterest images to be able to communicate the look she was hoping for. The images included more interaction among family members (in photographer speak - candid images) where they were looking at each other, not at the camera (those are called camera aware images). She also had some gorgeous lighting in the Pinterest pictures - beautiful sun flare peaking out behind the family.
I told this momma that I could ABSOLUTELY capture these images for her and that I would much prefer these candid images over the formal family portraits. We met early Sunday morning in the fall at a local forest preserve (Hastings Lake - the one with the awesome playground!) And I think we nailed it - these might be Pinterest-worthy themselves!!
